It was a closer game than expected , but the Central women’s basketball team came away with a five-point victory over Bethany Lutheran last night, 60 – 55, in a game that was live on KNIAKRLS.com. Despite getting out-rebounded 45 – 34, the Dutch managed to break open the game late to a 14-point advantage, before the Vikings got within two again in the closing moments. Clutch free throws from Rachel Evans was the difference, as she put in 14 points in the second half on her way to a game-high 23 in the win, which pushes Central’s record to 9 – 2. The men had a much easier time, as they held Bethany Lutheran to under 20% shooting for the game, in an 80 – 45 blitzing of the Vikings. Colby Taylor almost had a double-double at the half, and finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds, while the team shot nearly 50% from the field. Central’s men are 7 – 4, and both teams now turn their attention to Iowa Conference play on Wednesday, where the Dutch will open up on the road against Dubuque.
