Pella Christian basketball gave their fans who made the trek to Grimes, and the home fans, for that matter, their money’s worth yesterday, in two games with Dallas Center-Grimes that came down to the final minutes. The Eagles’ girls fell to the Fillies, 38 – 28, in a defensive struggle. The two teams were tied at six after one period, and deadlocked at 13 at the half. Pella Christian fell down by 11 at one point, but battled back and got to within four in the final frame before D-C-G sank free throws down the stretch to ice it. Brooke Mitrisin and Autumn Vos led all scorers with eight points, and Vos also grabbed eight rebounds. Levi Jungling for the Eagles’ boys had two chances to tie their game with the Mustangs in the closing seconds, but both came up a tad short, and Pella Christian fell 61 – 58. The Eagles held a lead after three periods, but couldn’t get the offense to click to begin the fourth quarter. Mitch Fopma came off the bench and scored a team-high 14 points. Pella Christian’s girls fall to 7 – 4 on the season while the boys are now 6 – 4. Each team is back in action tonight at home against rival Des Moines Christian.
