There was a wide range of results for Twin Cedars and Melcher-Dallas’ girls’ and boys’ basketball teams in Saturday’s first round efforts in the Bluegrass Conference tournament. For Twin Cedars, the girls came up short to Moulton-Udell, 53 – 36. Shyanne Denburger led her team in scoring with ten points. The Saber boys advanced, thanks to a 78 – 64 triumph over Orient-Macksburg. Otis Roby had a whopping 36 points, and Cam Arkema scored 25. Twin Cedars’ girls play Mormon Trail on Monday in the consolation bracket, while the boys earned a trip to play Grandview Christian on Tuesday. Melcher-Dallas’ girls beat Orient-Macksburg, 53 – 21; Kaylee Houston had 22 points, and Megan Roush and Jenny Petersen each put up 13. The Saints’ boys fell in a close one with Iowa Christian Academy, 65 – 50. The Lady Saints advance to play Moravia on Monday.
