It was close, but the PCM girls’ basketball team just could not overcome a slow start against Class 3A No. 7 Nevada, dropping last night, 54 – 46. The Mustangs scored just 17 first half points and had troubles with rebounding. Rachel Gulling led her squad in scoring with 14 points. Mustangs’ boys’ coach, Fred Lorensen, said it was “an ugly game,” but his team wound up grabbing a 47 – 39 win over the Cubs. Each team scored just five points apiece in the third quarter, and PCM topped Nevada, 9 – 8 in the final frame. Logan Gillman had 16 points, Trey Lindsay scored 12, and the PCM boys are now 11 – 3 on the year, while the girls fall to 10 – 5. The Mustangs are back in the gym tonight to host Colfax-Mingo.
