Twin Cedars had a successful evening of basketball against Orient-Macksburg, prevailing in both the girls’ and boys’ contests. The Saber girls wound up with a 49 – 44 victory, thanks to some big numbers from key players. Shelby DenBurger scored 12 points, Shyanne DenBurger had 16 points and ten rebounds, Liz Rowley scored 11, while Allie Utterback grabbed 11 boards. Twin Cedars’ girls are now 4 – 9. On the boys’ side, it was a 69 – 45 final that went the Sabers’ way. Otis Roby had another monumental effort, with 22 points and 18 rebounds, Cam Arkema had 21 points, and Trenton Bacus put up 16 on the board, and Twin Cedars improves to 6 – 7 on the season. The two schools get back down to it on Tuesday against Moravia. The Saints girls fell in a nail-biter, 50 – 47 to Moulton-Udell; Melcher-Dallas scored 27 of their 47 points in the fourth quarter to give them a fighting chance. Jenny Petersen scored 16 points, had nine rebounds and seven blocks in the loss. The Saints’ boys fell 71 – 45. Melcher-Dallas heads to Ankeny Christian Academy for a doubleheader next on Tuesday.
