A pair of huge conference road wins were picked up by the Pella High basketball teams last night in Grimes at D-C-G high school. The Lady Dutch started slow, but finished with a 49 – 37 victory over the Fillies. Pella’s girls held Dallas Center to just seven third quarter points while scoring 14 of their own. Kiara Bradley had a big game in her first game back from injury, scoring 12 points in the first three quarters before fouling out in the fourth, Katie Vander Molen led all Dutch scorers with 14. The stands were packed to the rafters for the boys’ game, but the Little Dutch sent a vast majority home after the halftime entertainment, in an 89 – 48 demolishing of the Mustangs. All 12 players who checked into the game scored, led by Ryan Van Wyk, who went 8-for-10 from the field and scored 17 points, Isaac Naaktgeboren had 16, and Payson Vande Lune put in 13. The Lady Dutch are now 7 – 0 in the conference and 12 – 2 overall, while the boys have won nine straight, sitting at 5 – 2 in the league with an 11 – 2 mark. The two scorching Dutch teams are back in action Tuesday at Grinnell.
