The long, grinding road trip to Storm Lake for Central basketball did not have a happy ending, as the Beavers handled the Dutch in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. Central’s women fell in a game that was close most of the way, 68 – 58. The score was tied at the half, and the Dutch got out to a five point lead at one point early on in the second, but went on an untimely scoring drought that allowed the Beavers to take control of the game with about eight minutes to go. Kenzie Vander Molen led all scorers with 17 points, and Madeline Simmons came off the bench to score 13 for the now 9 – 10 Dutch women. Central’s men could not keep pace with Buena Vista, losing 86 – 74. The Beavers shot almost 52% from the field and were 10-for-20 from outside, as opposed to Central’s 4-for-21 effort from beyond the arc. Colby Taylor had a game-high 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and had five steals to lead the charge for the Dutch. Central’s men fall to 10 – 9 overall and are 3 – 5 in the conference. Both teams are back at home next week, first facing Dubuque on Wednesday.
