A total of three Central men’s and women’s indoor track and field athletes brought home Iowa Conference recognition for their strong work this past weekend. Leading the charge was Eric Larson, who was named Iowa Conference male athlete of the week, after defeating ten other Division I athletes in the heptathlon at the University of Nebraska on Friday and Saturday. Larson set a school-record and current Division III high total of 5,399 points to win by 14 over multi-eventers from Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, and even Auburn University. Lorell Stuht, a sophomore, was picked as the league women’s field performer of the week, after toppling the school record in the weight throw with a hurl of 52 feet and 11 inches at the Wartburg Select on Saturday. Junior sprinter, Allie McBroom was the women’s track performer of the week. She brought down a 36-year old record in the 600 meter run, in a time of 1:37.57. McBroom was also the anchor leg on the second-place 1,600 meter relay team, whose time is third nationally in Division III so far this season. Central’s men and women split up again this week, with some heading to the Grinnell Invitational with others off to Massachusetts for the Boston University Valentine Invitational.
