Tying up some loose ends and all-around better basketball are the goals of the Pella High girls’ basketball team as they prepare for the postseason in a little over a week. The Lady Dutch improved to 11 – 0 in a difficult Little Hawkeye Conference on Tuesday with a win over Newton. Pella’s defense has been their biggest key to their current run of 15-straight victories, which they’ve traded in exchange for some offense. Their shooting percentage has dropped to around 38%, but they’ve limited opponents to around 40 points per game on average over the last 14 contests. The 51 they allowed against the Cardinals is the most since PCM scored 58 against them about a month ago. Assistant Coach, Wade Van Vark, hopes that in addition to the offense improving, that the girls can also take better care of the ball. Pella is averaging 15 turnovers per game heading into their final test tomorrow night against Oskaloosa. You can hear that doubleheader live on 92.1 KRLS.
