The final week of the PCM basketball teams’ regular seasons started with a bang, as both squads came up on the correct end of two close contests with Gilbert. The girls were able to edge the Tigers, 59 – 54; Coach Bret Grier tells KNIA/KRLS Sports his ladies played a complete game yesterday. Rachel Freland, in limited minutes due to foul trouble, still scored 22 points, and Courtney Van Houweling contributed 11 in the winning effort. Logan Gillman’s 27 points helped the Mustang boys go into a tie with the Tigers atop the Heart of Iowa Conference standings, as they won 70 – 60. PCM was down by two at the half, and held Gilbert to just 25 points in the final 16 minutes. PCM’s girls are off until Saturday for the opening round of the regional tournament against Centerville, while the boys are hoping to secure at least a share of the league title at home against Greene County on Friday.
