After the first few minutes of each game, it wasn’t even a contest, as Pella High’s basketball teams had no problem taking care of business against Oskaloosa in yet another “Green Sweep” last night. The Lady Dutch put up 46 first half points, outscoring the Indians 23 – 3 in the second quarter, to win 68 – 31. Ten different players scored, four of them wound up in double figures, led by Katie Vander Molen’s 13, while Mackenzie Gustafson, Jessica Holterhaus, and Morgan Terpstra all dumped in ten. Pella’s boys were down 8 – 5 early in the first quarter, but closed the period out on a 30 – 2 run to demolish Oskaloosa, 95 – 25. Isaac Naaktgeboren scored 22 points, which puts him at 1,003 for his career. He is only the fourth in school history to eclipse the millennium mark, with two of the others having the last name of Korver. Sebastian Baugh, Grant Judkins, and Austin Schulte combined for 45 points off the bench in the win, as the Little Dutch improve to 17 – 2 on the season, and are Little Hawkeye Conference champions. The Lady Dutch end the regular season with an 18 – 2 record and have the same designation. The boys are off until Tuesday to host Centerville in their finale, while the girls host the winner of Knoxville-Washington in the Class 4A regional semifinals next Saturday.
