Pella High came away with an emphatic sweep of Norwalk on the road on Friday night, to take a firm grasp of the top spots in the Little Hawkeye Conference basketball race. The Lady Dutch pounded the Warriors, 58 – 40, to clinch at least a share of the league title. Katie Vander Molen scored a game-high 18 points to lead the charge for Pella. The “Green Gals” have a two-game lead with as many conference games left to play. Pella’s boys were involved in a very chippy game with the Warriors, but demolished them, 75 – 50, thanks to 15 made three-pointers. Norwalk was assessed two technical fouls, one on head coach, Chris Larson, and the other on Baylee Steele for a hard foul late in the game. Coach Mark Core gave a lot of credit to his guys after the game. Will Warner and Isaac Naaktgeboren each scored 15 points in the physical match-up, and Ryan Van Wyk added ten of his own. The Lady Dutch have won 14 straight, and are 16 – 2, the boys are 15 – 2; the Little Dutch own a one-game lead and the season sweep over Norwalk with a home game against Newton coming up on Tuesday.
