A political struggle over the school start date continues at the Iowa Statehouse.
Last week, the House passed an August 23rd start date, and the Senate voted to concur. However, according to State Senator Ken Rozenboom, Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal filed a motion to reconsider the bill, which prevents it from being sent to Governor Terry Branstad for final consideration. State Representative Guy Vander Linden says he’s unsure as to why the delay is necessary. He says that while he favors local control, the date agreed upon in both chambers serves as a compromise and in his view is the most realistic option.
