It wasn’t too long ago that we were talking about the successes of the Pella High football team and how many of those athletes had such a short turnaround to get ready to play on a harder surface. Now, here we are, about three months later, and we’re discussing the possibilities of another state championship here in Marion County for the third straight “sports season.” Coach Mark Core feels the experience some of his players had from being a part of that undefeated pigskin squad is part of the reason they’re still playing here in March. Those football players and fans alike are familiar with Pella’s first round opponent on Tuesday: Cedar Rapids Xavier, in the late game at 8:15 p.m.
