Third time was not the charm for Norwalk, as Pella High’s boys’ basketball team shut down the Warriors to earn their first trip to the Wells Fargo Arena since 2010 in last night’s 62 – 51 win in the Class 3A substate final. The Dutch and Ryan Van Wyk once again stifled 6’10” senior, Baylee Steele, and held him to zero points in the first half. Pella couldn’t fully pull away, but went 17-for-18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to ice the game down the stretch. Coach Mark Core says they had to work on “D,” but played an all-around exceptional game. Will Warner led all Dutch scorers with 15 points, as they improve to 21 – 2 on the season, and they’ll play Cedar Rapids Xavier as the number three seed in the Class 3A state tournament next Tuesday at 8:15 p.m.
