Central’s track teams made a surge at Saturday’s finale of the Iowa Conference indoor track meet in Waverly. The men started the day a few points behind Wartburg, and finished tied for first with the Knights at 176 points. It’s the seventh straight year Central’s men have ended up at least second in the league meet. The Dutch had four of the top six finishers in the mile run, Eric Larson and teammate Dan Roemerman were 1-2 in the 60 meter hurdles, and Conner Freeman was second in the heptathlon. Central’s women broke away from a clustered middle-of-the-pack after day one thanks to an MVP effort from Abi Davis. The junior won the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter run to pace the Dutch. Meredith Zimmerman broke her own school record in the 60 meter hurdles to win that event, and Allie McBroom was victorious in the 400. Central participates next in the “Last Chance Meet” this Friday at Wisconsin – Platteville to try and qualify for the NCAA Division III championships March 13 – 14 in North Carolina.
