It was a season that ended a game shy of the Class 3A state girls’ basketball tournament, but PCM’s impressive run resulted in several honors for 2014-15. Two Mustangs earned first-team all-conference honors in the Heart of Iowa. Unanimously being chosen was Rachel Freland. The senior led the league in scoring with 17 per game, shooting 34% from outside, and she was top ten in assists, third in steals, and sixth in blocked shots. Courtney VanHouweling was also picked to the first team. She was second in steals, led the conference in assists with over 100, and eighth in scoring with almost 11 points per game. Katie Vande Wall was chosen to the second team all-conference. As a sophomore, she put up almost eight points per game on average, and she led the team in total rebounds, finishing in the top 15 in the league with over five per game. Honorable mentions went to Rachel Gulling and Kayla Jennings. Freland and VanHouweling each were also named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Class 3A All-District Team Southwest, and both will be playing in the IGCA Class 3A All-Star game at Kirkwood Community College on Saturday, March 28.
