Central College finished the softball regular season yesterday with an 8-2, 7-6 sweep of Buena Vista at the Kuyper Athletic Complex. The Beavers jumped in front with two first inning runs, but Central stormed back with five in the second inning and controlled the game the rest of the way. Game two also looked like a Dutch runaway, but Buena Vista scored four runs in the seventh inning to force extra innings before Karlee Rock’s bases load single plated Abby Strajack with the winner in the ninth. The Dutch finished the regular season at 28-9, and were second in the Iowa Conference at 9-3. Coach George Wares has his eyes firmly focused on a potential playoff berth, and says that yesterday’s sweep was critical that possibility. Central can clinch an NCAA tournament bid by winning the Iowa Conference tournament, which is this weekend in Decorah. If they don’t, they’ll look to learn an at-large bid when the 62-team field is announced one week from today. The Dutch will play the winner of Dubuque and Simpson next Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the IIAC single elimination tourney.
