In danger of ending up on the wrong end of a doubleheader sweep against league also-ran Loras, the Central College softball bats finally woke up in game two as the Dutch rallied for an 11-6 victory after dropping the opener 4-3. Central led the whole way in game one before the Duhawks hit a game-tying home run in the sixth and scored on a walk-off single in the seventh. They then hit two home runs in the first inning of game two to open up a 4-0 lead. Central clawed back, eventually taking a 6-5 lead before Loras tied it at six going to the final inning. Karlee Rock led off the seventh with her school record 12th home run of the season, and the hit parade continued as Central tacked on four more runs to earn the come-from-behind victory. The Dutch went 2-2 on the weekend, splitting with both Dubuque and Loras, putting them at 25-8 on the season and 6-2 in solo 2nd place in the Iowa Conference. Coach George Wares’ club is off all week long, returning to action next Saturday with the first place showdown against Luther, which you’ll be able to hear live on 92.1 KRLS.
