A memorial service honoring fallen Knoxville Police Officer M. A. “Bert” Conrey will be held at the Knoxville Police Department next month.

His death over 77 years ago is now being recognized by the state of Iowa and the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C..
Officer Conrey died on April 2nd, 1938, at the age of 56, as a result of injuries sustained during an assault by a couple on St. Patrick’s Day two weeks earlier. Conrey served the Knoxville Police Department for 23 years and was actually kidnapped in January 1933 by a group who robbed a Missouri bank, among which was a member of the Dillinger Gang.
The memorial service for Officer Conrey will be Thursday, May 7th, beginning at 2pm.
