On May 14th 2015, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office completed an investigation of possible sexual assault that occurred in Bussey, Iowa.
The crime was reported by the victim, who stated on April 26th, 2015 a person purporting to be an acquaintance from high school friend requested the victim on Facebook, stating his former Facebook account had been hacked. The victim accepted the friend request and a conversation between both parties ensued. Texting between the victim and the person posing as an old acquaintance progressed and an invitation was extended to come to the victim’s house.
The male stated he would like the victim to be blindfolded and restrained; after which he would come to the victim’s house and have intercourse. The victim agreed, as they thought it was the old acquaintance. The unknown male did commit these aforementioned acts. The victim was able to get free of the restraints, but did not see the male’s face. The following day, April 27th 2015, the victim contacted the old acquaintance, determining it had not been him at the victim’s residence. Law Enforcement interviewed the old acquaintance who provided an alibi and willingly submitted a sample of his DNA for testing. After further investigation, it was determined that 20 year old Michael Kelso-Christy of Albia fraudulently posed as the old acquaintance in order to solicit women for nude photographs and sexual congress.
Michael Kelso-Christy was charged with Burglary in the 1st Degree, a Class “B” Felony; Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree, a Class “C” Felony; Identity Theft, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, and a Serious Misdemeanor for Possession of a Controlled Substance. On May 14th 2015, Mr. Kelso-Christy was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on a $37,000 bond. Additional charges are pending in Monroe County. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Albia Police Department, Monroe County Conservation Board Employees, and other Department of Public Safety Agencies.
