Having to deal with the weather, the Central baseball team took a win and a loss with them into today in the Iowa Conference tournament opener on Thursday. The Dutch started the day with their fifth straight win over Loras, 9 – 1. Andy Carr was magnificent, pitching the full nine innings, giving up just one run on five hits to improve to 5 – 1 on the season. His battery-mate, Michael Reuter, was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Kirby Coppess also contributed three of Central’s ten hits in the win. The nightcap was a different story, as the Dutch fell to Coe, 7 – 2. Michael Reuter had the only offense for Central, with a two-run shot in the eighth, one of their only five hits. Dylan Diveney had a rough go of it after his masterful performance last weekend; he gave up five earned runs on nine hits in six innings of work to take his first loss since late March. The Dutch must win out to receive an automatic berth to the national stage. They’ll begin their jaunt through the consolation bracket tonight at 7:00 p.m. against an opponent still to be named.
