It’s official: Central’s baseball teams has Loras’ number in 2015. For the sixth time in the last seven days, the Dutch defeated the Duhawks, this time in an elimination game in the Iowa Conference tournament last night, 8 – 0. Central beat Loras on Thursday, 9 – 1, in the league tourney opener, but had to go through them again to keep their season alive. The Dutch put up two runs in the first, second, third and fifth innings, while Matt Schissel got the job done on the mound, pitching eight innings of shutout ball, while allowing just three hits and two walks. Kirby Coppess was 2-for-3 at the plate, with four runs batted in, and a trio of other Central players each added a pair of knocks. The Dutch are now 22 – 20, and they must beat Wartburg today at 10:00 a.m. to advance to the league championship for the second straight season.
