Automatically making the 62-team NCAA Division III National Tournament after walloping Luther, 8 – 2, on Saturday, the Central softball team now knows they won’t have to go that far for their next set of contests. The Dutch were chosen for the fifth straight season to host the regional tournament inside the Tulip City. The No. 16 Central women will be playing Gustavus Adolphus in the first round on Friday. These two schools played one another in late March, with Central prevailing, 5 – 3 and 9 – 5. The Dutch will need three wins this weekend to advance to the super regional, which could pit them into a rematch with No. 4 Luther for a trip to the national tournament championships in Virginia at the end of this month. First pitch on Friday is set for 3:30 p.m. for the double-elimination tournament opener for Central.
