Only one team stands between the Central College softball squad and a trip to the Division III national finals, as the Dutch host Linfield in a best-of-three Super Regional that starts this afternoon at the Kuyper Athletic Complex in Pella. Central has won 10 of its past 12 games, including four in a row to win a regional on its home field last weekend. Similarly, the Wildcats have won 10 of their last 11, including four in a row to win a regional in Decorah last weekend. With the tournament down to just 16 teams, there are no gimmies to be found, and Central coach George Wares knows that this weekend will be a battle. Each team boasts a senior hurler that willed them to this point in the season. For Central, righty Mallory Schulenberg was the Most Outstanding Player at last weekend’s Pella regional, while Linfield lefty Montana McNealy was the Most Outstanding Player at the Decorah Regional. They’ll each be challenged this weekend, however, as Central brings an offense averaging a school record 7.1 runs per game, while the Wildcats score 6.4 times per contest. The best-of-three series features one game today and two tomorrow. First pitch this afternoon is at 4:00, and you can hear the action live on 92.1 KRLS andwww.kniakrls.com, beginning with our PellaMotors.com pregame show at 3:40.
