Opening up their postseason yesterday, the Pella Christian boys’ soccer team came out on top of Albia via shootout, 2 – 1. The score was tied at one after 40 minutes; Alex Pringle got the tally with an assist from Jake DeRuiter. Two overtimes couldn’t decide a winner, so the game went to penalty kicks, where the Eagles thoroughly dominated the Blue Devils, winning 4 – 1 after four rounds. The Eagles are now 8 – 7 on the season and they’ll take on Des Moines Christian on the road tomorrow night in the substate semifinals. The Eagle girls played Newton tough yesterday, but ultimately dropped a 5 – 0 decision to the Cardinals. PC held Newton scoreless in the first 28 minutes before they were able to score. Coach Mike Buchheit says through the injuries and inexperience, his girls have been playing hard each game, and hopes that they end the regular season on the highest note they can. Pella Christian’s record falls to 4 – 11, and they will take on those same Lions on Thursday night.
