In what turned out to be a huge weekend for Central sports, the Dutch had five athletes earn weekly honors for their performances over the past seven days. Desmond Stoll of the Central men’s golf team was named male athlete of the week and men’s golf performer of the week after helping lead the Dutch to another Iowa Conference tournament championship and a spot in the NCAA Division III National Tournament in North Carolina next Tuesday through Friday. Stoll won by eight strokes, and Coach Chad Green says it was very fitting for him to win it this year. Mallory Scheulenberg was selected as the female athlete and softball pitcher of the week. She threw a total of nine innings in the league tournament on Saturday, seven of which stifled No. 4-ranked Luther en route to an 8 – 2, championship-clinching win. Paige Schreiner also had a hand in the Dutch softball team’s successful weekend, as she was named position player of the week, coming up with two hits and two RBIs against the Norse. Dylan Diveney was one out away from a ten-inning no-hit effort against Loras, but settled for a complete game shutout, which propelled Central’s baseball team to a four-game sweep of the Duhawks and the No. 3 position in the conference tourney. Coach Matt Schirm says Saturday’s performance wasn’t just a fluke. Diveney was tabbed as the league pitcher of the week. Finally, Abi Davis was either first or second in three different events in Saturday’s Monmouth Invitational to garner women’s track performer of the week.
