It took until the tenth inning for the real fireworks to start, but the Pella High baseball team prevailed over an extremely talented Bondurant-Farrar team last night, 5 – 2. Little Dutch had a 1 – 0 lead all the way up until the sixth, when the Bluejays tied it up. The score was 1 – 1 entering the tenth, when the Dutch put up a four-spot to outdistance themselves from Bondurant-Farrar. Marcus Wittmer was 2-for-4 at the dish with a pair of RBIs. He also earned the win, pitching three innings in relief of Tanner Wood, giving up three hits and a walk plus an unearned run. Wood went seven strong, allowing five hits, no walks, and striking out three. On the softball diamond, the Lady Dutch dropped to 1 – 1 on the season with a 12 – 2 loss to Lynnville-Sully. Kinzi Van Wyk was the pitcher of note, getting just two runs of support on seven hits offensively. Pella baseball is back at it for their third game in as many nights this evening versus Des Moines North, while the softball team is in a tournament at Centerville.
