Thursday, the Knoxville Police Department will hold a service to honor fallen Knoxville Police Officer M. A. “Bert” Conrey, whose death over 77 years ago is now being recognized by the state of Iowa and the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C.

Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada says members of Conrey’s family, including his only surviving child, Duane Conrey Sr, are expected to attend.
Officer Conrey, a 23 year veteran of the Knoxville PD, died on April 2nd, 1938, at the age of 56, as a result of injuries sustained during an assault by a couple on St. Patrick’s Day two weeks earlier.
The memorial service for Officer Conrey will be at the Knoxville Police Department beginning at 2pm.
