Both the PCM baseball and softball teams shutout their competitors in their season debuts on Wednesday. The Mustang softball team downed South Hamilton, 5 – 0; Rachel Freland was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game and allowing just two hits in seven innings while striking out six. Katie VandeWall hit for the cycle and drove in three runs in a 4-for-4 night. On the hardball diamond, PCM scored early and often to goose-egg South Hamilton, 10 – 0 in five innings. A five-run second was the big difference in the game, and offensively, the Mustangs’ charge was led by Clay Cooper’s 3-for-3 day at the plate, with two of those hits being doubles. Sheldon Speers had a home run and two RBI, and Austin Brown got the win on the hill, allowing only one hit and one walk over five innings with seven K’s. Both teams are 1 – 0, and they’ll each take on Greene County on the road tonight. A box score from the baseball game can be found below.
