Twice down by one-goal deficits, and twice the Pella High girls’ soccer team came back to tie the score against Norwalk last night. Eventually, the Lady Dutch wound up on top in overtime, 3 – 2. The score was 1 – 0 in favor of the Warriors, before Katie Vander Molen struck a few minutes into the second half to even the score. Norwalk quickly answered with a goal a few minutes later, but Katie Canfield was right there with another equalizer in the 58″ thanks to a free kick. The score would hold through regulation, when Canfield put the golden goal through in the fourth minute of the first overtime to give her team the win and improve their record to 7 – 1 overall and 3 – 0 in league play. Pella’s boys found out how strong the No. 1 Class 2A team in the state was, dropping a 5 – 1 decision to the Warriors on the road. Seth Johnson had Pella’s lone goal, as Coach Mark Solomon says there were too many defensive mistakes that led to easy chances for the Warriors. The Little Dutch are now 10 – 4; both squads return to action on Tuesday, with the boys at home to face Newton, and the ladies on the road with the Cardinals.
