If you put a snapshot of all of the finishes of every race at the Pella High Class 3A state track and field qualifying meet from last night, all you would see is a blur of green. Both the Little and Lady Dutch had multiple qualifiers and each easily won their district championship by a wide margin. Pella’s girls have a definite 16 qualifiers to state that either finished first or second. Among the first place performances included the 4 x 200 meter relay team, Lydia VanEe in multiple hurdle events, and the sprint medley relay squad. Coach Dak Rasmussen was extremely proud of his team despite the conditions. The Little Dutch got eight automatic qualifiers, including the 4 x 200, 400, and 800 meter relay teams, Garret Jansen set a new school record in the shot put, and he also qualified in the discus, Chase Van Sant in the long jump, and Payson VandeLune clocked in first place in the 800 and his time is tenth best in school history. Full results will be posted below when they become official. Teams around the state will know for sure what qualified overall after all meets have been reported and times have been calculated. The state meet is at Drake Stadium next Thursday through Saturday. KNIA/KRLS Sports will be there live with up-to-the-minute updates as our athletes chase after state championships.
