The last two months having flown by, Pleasantville, Melcher-Dallas, and Twin Cedars’ track and field squads are looking for a spot somewhere inside of Drake Stadium next week when they try and qualify various events to state tonight.
The Trojans and Saints are both at Martensdale-St. Mary’s for their opportunities. Big participation numbers have helped Pleasantville look as strong as they have been this year, and they find a lot of names in the top five in several events, especially in the relays. The Trojans’ 4 x 100, 200, and 400 meter relay teams have posted the best time this season of anyone else in attendance. Coach Gabe Bakker hopes his seniors continue to provide leadership tonight.
Melcher-Dallas’ Chase Wetterling is hoping for at least one more meet after tonight, as he’s number one in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and Waylon Balk is tied for first in the high jump. There are many a Trojan names on the girls’ side, and they look to be in contention in four of the relay races. David Williams, Hunter Swope, and the rest of the Twin Cedars’ boys and girls are at B-G-M, and they hope to make some noise and continue their season. All state qualifying meets begin at 4:00 p.m.
