Marion County Demo Building
Delays in reopening a building in downtown Knoxville have led to the tenant moving out.

People were seen removing signs and other items from Prudential First of Knoxville Realty on Third Street and building owner Chris Hoegh told the Marion County Board of Supervisors Tuesday that he no longer has a tenant for the building.
Prudential had been waiting since March 14th to reopen after the Marion County-owned building next to it was discovered to have a structural failure and eventually needed to be torn down. The two buildings shared a common wall that suffered from deterioration and bad mortar, according to a structural engineer’s report.
The City of Knoxville is not allowing the building to be occupied until repairs to the wall can be made.
Marion County Auditor Jake Grandia told the board they’re waiting on the cost estimates to come back from the engineering firm on the design of the repairs, which must then be approved by ICAP, the county’s insurance company. Marion County Attorney Ed Bull said he would ask ICAP for a time frame of when the process would be completed.
