Disc Golf Course

One local middle school student has helped add a new feature to the Pella Community School District’s campus.
Seventh grader Thomas Gaul led an Eagle Scout project focused on the creation of a disc golf course.
“There was an announcement in my Boy Scout troop that there was going to be an Eagle Scout project that was already funded and all,” Gaul says. “I just rose my hand and said I’d be interested in it.”
Gaul says he worked with a disc golf professional, friends, and family members to install the various components between Pella Middle School and Jefferson Intermediate.
“Well I had to email a lot to find out what materials and tools I’d need to put it in,” Gaul says.
“We had three work sessions: the first time we put in the concrete for the poles. The next day, we worked on those more and digging the holes. Then, the last work session we put in the holes themselves and painted the sign posts.”
He says the goal was to learn how to lead. Gaul enjoys seeing fellow students use the course during their free time.
