Going for the gold starting today are Chase Wetterling from Melcher-Dallas and the Pleasantville boys’ track and field team up on the Blue Oval in Des Moines. Pleasantville has a total of five events that they will be looking to score points in; four of those, the Trojans are ranked in the top eight in Class 1A. Kirk Wicks will compete in the 200 meter dash prelims, and in the same heat, Wetterling for the Saints will also take part. Both were invovled in a neck-and-neck battle at the state qualifying meet, and tonight, they’ll be separated by just two lanes. Melcher-Dallas boys’ track coach, Mike Horstman, says they’ve been working on small things with Chase to shave critical seconds off of his times in the two events he’s competing in this evening.
Wetterling will first participate in the 100 meter dash preliminaries at around 4:35 p.m., with the 200 to be run at around 6:40.
