The annual Coal Miner’s Day celebration begins tonight in Melcher-Dallas.

Coal Miner’s Committee Vice-President Angie Lepley says the event started as a simple golf outing several decades ago and around 1975, others decided to have a picnic to coincide with the outing.
The 40th Anniversary of Coal Miner’s Day will kick off with music, carnival rides, and fireworks. The KNIA/KRLS Lil’ Big Red Radio will participate in the parade Saturday and be on hand to play music and make announcements.
