The Pella Lady Dutch just had to get runners on in front of their clean-up hitter, and the rest would take care of itself in their 6-3 win over Grinnell, a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS. Catcher Lydia Dingeman crushed a pair of long home runs in her first two at-bats, driving in five to lead Pella to their eleventh victory of the season. Head Coach Krista DeMeulenaere says those big swings provided a much needed momentum and energy boost to her squad on a night when rain seemingly wouldn’t go away.
“Those are always tough because you’re up and ready to go, and all of the sudden you have to wait, and those make for tough games because you have to dig deep emotionally,” DeMeulenaere says. “I think it was a good lesson for the girls, because I think we need to figure how to do that a little better, how to get up for that game.”
Elyse Sadler moved to 7-6 on the season after tossing a complete game, giving up two earned runs and fanning five Tigers. Pella moves to 11-9 on the season, will face crosstown rival Pella Christian for a pair of games at the home of the Eagles on Wednesday night.
Pella baseball won in a rain-shortened game, 2 – 1 over Newton. Tanner Wood and AJ Kingery each had an RBI. Pella will play Grinnell later tonight in a game that was postponed from yesterday. JV comes first at 5:30, with varsity to follow at 7:30.
