Central College 2011 graduate, Kurtis Brondyke, placed seventh in the decathlon at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Friday. Brondyke was competing amongst a field of athletes who are trying to get one step closer to a spot on the USA team at the Olympics in 2016 in Brazil. The Dutch alum scored 7,475 points, just six behind sixth place. Automatic invitations to the IAAF World Championships in China this August were given to participants who scored at least 7,800 points, but Brondyke’s total still leaves him in good shape to grab an “at-large” invitation. The nation’s top 18 decathletes are invited to the U.S. Olympic Trials next summer. Brondyke entered the week ranked 11th, and his performance this week improved upon that standing.
