Division III indoor pentathlon champion in 2011, Kurtis Brondyke, qualified in the decathlon for this week’s U.S.A. Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Brondyke was also the runner-up in the 2011 outdoor D3 decathlon, put up a total of 7,689 points to get himself into the mix of 16 athletes vying for a title. He was tenth last year in the championships with a score of 7,416. The former Dutch is currently employed by the University of Central Missouri as an assistant track coach who primarily works with jumpers and multi-eventers. Brondyke was a participant at this year’s Drake Relays, where he took third place in the decathlon, finishing just one point out of second place. The U.S.A. championships are this Thursday-through-Sunday.
