With so much youth and talent back from a year ago, expectations were a little higher in the Central women’s basketball camp heading into the 2014-15 season. They had an all-conference point guard returning in Kenzie Vander Molen, an outstanding defensive presence in Rachel Evans, and a skilled incoming freshmen class that looked to make an immediate impact. However, injuries decimated the team throughout the season, and despite starting 9 – 2 in the non-conference part of the schedule, the Dutch finished just 10 – 15 overall and 1 – 13 in the Iowa Conference. This was not a disappointing season, though. Au contraire, says Coach Chelsea Petersen. Nearly 60% of Central’s scoring graduates, so 2015-16 looks to be another rebuilding and experience-gaining year for the Dutch, but there is much to be excited about when heading to the P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium this winter, and for many seasons to come.
