The bats came back to life for Knoxville Baseball during a 12-3 six inning win over Chariton on Wednesday night. Just one day after losing to one of the best pitcher’s in the North Central Conference, 6th ranked Knoxville faced one of the best in the South Central Conference in Chariton’s Charlie Palmer. The senior southpaw was fresh off a one hitter against Class 3A #9 Fairfield last Friday. However, on this night the story was both the Knoxville offense and the first career start for normal closer Tony Salato. Knoxville Head Coach Joel Johnson said it was a good first outing for Salato, but he needs to learn to be more efficient with his pitches as a starter if he is going to go deep into the ball game. Salato earned the pitching win giving up just one earned run on three hits and had nine strikeouts in five innings of work. Salato also got it done at the plate going 3-5 on the night. Kevin Woodhouse, Jared McClung and freshman Ben Wallace also had multiple hits for Knoxville who pounded out 12 total hits in the ball game. Knoxville now sits at 11-2 overall and are undefeated in South Central Conference play with an 8-0 record. Their busy week continues tomorrow night with a double header on the road at #9 Fairfield. Coach Johnson also added that he’s proud of his team and called them “road warriors” as they haven’t played at home in nearly three weeks. Knoxville Baseball will be back at home on Friday night as they host Oskaloosa.
