The Little Hawkeye Conference runners-up had their shot to avenge a championship showdown on the pitch against Dallas Center Grimes, but the Lady Dutch soccer team was unable to beat the Fillies, falling 3-1. Pella High gave up a goal two minutes and forty five seconds into their 10th ever state tournament appearance in Des Moines, and had to play catch up for the remainder.
Trailing by two and with just over ten left in regulation, the first goal of the season for Kloe Lambert brought the Dutch back to life. The message from Coach Mark Howard at halftime was “score once to have a chance.”
The girls then rallied with numerous chances in the final ten minutes and within inches of tying in as time was running out, but a DCG goal with two minutes remaining sealed their fate. Pella finishes the season at 12-4.
