The bats were working for the Pella High softball team yesterday during their first two games of an invitational in Ankeny. Ankeny Centennial was first up, and the Lady Dutch were on the wrong end of an 8 – 7 score. Sara Tallman reached base five times, going 3-for-3 at the plate with three stolen bases. McKenna Rozenberg was 3-for-4, and freshman Destiny Brown had a pair of hits. Game two was all Pella in a 13 – 3, five-inning win over Mason City. Tallman had just one hit in the nightcap, but stole a whopping five bases. Elyse Sadler got the win on the mound allowing only three earned runs. Errors cost Pella’s baseball team in a 13 – 1 loss last night. The Dutch were in an 8 – 0 hole after the first, facing the Bulldogs’ #1 pitcher. Grant Judkins had the lone highlight, with an RBI double to drive in the only run of the game for Pella. The Lady Dutch are now 13 – 10, the boys fall to 18 – 3; Pella’s girls conclude their stay in Ankeny later this morning, and the Little Dutch take the weekend off to prep for two with Norwalk on Monday.
