With both pitchers throwing gems, it took a measly two-out error to send Pella Christian’s softball team over the top of Pella High last night, 1 – 0, in a game heard live on 92.1 KRLS. Both Elyse Sadler and Emma Schnell were pitching out of jams caused mainly by the defense, with unique double plays being turned all evening. It wasn’t until the seventh that the scoreboard turned from 0 – 0. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Courtney Johannes scored on an error from a throw to first following a sharply hit ball to the hot corner. Schnell’s final five outs recorded were via punch-out, and she ended up with 12 total. Lady Dutch head coach, Krista DeMeulenaere, says when her girls step foot onto the diamond they have an expectation to win. Eagles’ coach, Karen Harrill, says both starters and non-starters alike deserve a lot of credit for how far they’ve come so far. Sara Tallman sparked the Lady Dutch, racking up two base hits, including a triple, with two stolen bases. The Eagles improve to 11 – 1 on the year while Pella drops to 8 – 4. Both teams are in action tonight; the Lady Dutch are at home versus Centerville and the Eagles play host to Colfax-Mingo.
