Central head women’s basketball coach, Chelsea Petersen, was one of just 40 women from all NCAA divisions chosen to attend the NCAA Women Coaches Academy over in Denver, Colorado in the final week of May. The five-day event gives coaches strategies in program management, with a focus on philosophy development and gaining skills in planning, communication, legal issues, ethics, hiring, staff supervision, conflict resolution, learning styles, and achieving success. One major thing Coach Petersen says she took out of her week-long stay was being surrounded by other coaches in various programs that care and are as passionate as she is about their sport, their teams, and the growth of both. Petersen adds the coaches’ academy also helps you hone in on some areas that you can improve upon.
The countdown is less than five months away for the 2015-16 season of Central women’s basketball. They’ll begin on November 14 with a trip to face Blackburn, Illinois.
