While a majority of students are away from Central College’s campus during the summer months, some are still performing research that could have big impacts in the near future.
This summer, Central students Abby Fyfe and Casey Link are working with Professor Paulina Mena to explore the genetic diversity of bees native to Iowa. Fyfe and Link both say that the research is aimed to prevent further decline of the important pollinators. About once a week, the students and Professor Mena capture different types of bees at a farm south of Lake Red Rock, and then bring them back to the lab for genetic testing. We have more about their research on Let’s Talk Pella.
