A former Pella pharmacist and the Iowa Board of Pharmacy reached a settlement agreement for allegations of misconduct.
Former Crown Pharmacy Owner Don Versluys was accused of taking cash payments from customers instead of filing to insurance. He received a $10,000 civil fine, a six-month suspension of his pharmacy license, and three years of probation. He is also permanently restricted from owning a pharmacy or acting as a pharmacist-in-chief. As a part of the settlement, Versluys did not admit to the allegations, but is required to acknowledge them if he plans to act as a pharmacist.
Pella Police Chief Robert Bokinsky tells KNIA/KRLS News that there is an ongoing criminal investigation, but no charges have been filed. Versluys told KNIA/KRLS News before the June agreement the charges surfaced from an anonymous tip to the Board of Pharmacy from what he believes to be a disgruntled former employee. He said billings during the time of the investigation were more than 99% accurate.
