The class 4A postseason softball journey starts tonight as Knoxville hosts Pella. The Panthers have won five of their last seven games and ended up fourth in the South Central Conference. Nearly every aspect of their game has improved in the second half of the season. Hitting may be one of the biggest improvements with four girls with 40 hits or more this season and three with a 400 or higher batting average. The Panthers also do not commit many errors with only 61 this season, which was the least in the conference. Player Hannah Worrall tells KNIA/KRLS Sports the overall confidence level of the team is as high as it’s been all season. The pitching of Delaynee South has also been a major factor. In 123 and two/thirds innings of work she has walked 23 batters. Pella comes in with the top batting average in the Little Hawkeye Conference, plus is led by pitcher Elyse Sadler who possess of 1.66 E-R-A. The two teams played back in June and Knoxville won in Pella 2-0. You can hear the play-by-play on AM 1320 and 95.3 KNIA with Derek Cardwell and 92.1 KRLS with Cory Houser, both broadcasts will be streamed live on kniakrls.com.
