One swing of the bat wound up being the difference in Pella High’s 5 – 2 win over Knoxville last night in the Class 4A regional tournament opener. In a game that only took a few minutes more than an hour to complete, the Lady Dutch put the pressure on early, but finally broke through in the third. After Elyse Sadler and Kinzi Van Wyk got aboard to begin the inning, Kennedy Landgrebe sent a 1 – 1 pitch well over the fence to clear the bases. Pella added runs in the fifth and seventh to give Sadler some extra cushion that she didn’t need; she went the full seven innings, allowing one earned run and scattering seven hits with five strikeouts. Coach Krista DeMeulenaere says the team set a good pace and played a great game. Coach Steph Christner told KNIA/KRLS Sadler pitched well…and her team just did not have the energy. Knoxville got an RBI double from Emily Wallace; Hannah Worrall and Taylor Carter each found extra bases, too. Pella High is 19 – 13 on the year, and they’ll play at Indianola in the semifinals on Saturday. The Panthers end their season 19 – 13, and they graduate three seniors: Carter, Worrall, and Cheyenne Jones.
